Vega Metals, Inc., located in Durham, North Carolina, USA is recognized as a collaborative team of metal designers and artist blacksmiths with extensive experience in the field of metalwork. Since 1987 we have designed, produced and installed thousands of private and commercial commissions. Our work is all hand forged using steel, bronze, copper, stainless steel and aluminum. Forged pieces include art furnishings, courtyard gates, driveway entry gates, railings, architectural ornamentation, sculptural and functional art forms for both interior and exterior spaces. We have received many international awards for our work.
In May of 1999, Vega Metals formed a second company, known as Cricket Forge. The first bench we designed was the butterfly which, ten years later, continues to be our best seller. Our respect to the demanding tradition of excellence in craftsmanship, appropriate use of materials, and innovative technical concepts are taken just as seriously both with Vega Metals Inc. and Cricket Forge.
Each bench goes trough a rigorous finishing process. First we shot blast the piece in order to clean and remove mill scale from the bare steel. An application of flame-sprayed zinc is then applied. Marine vessel fabricators apply flame-sprayed zinc to all ferrous metals resulting in a highly resistant coating which prevents oxidation. Once shot blasted and zinc-coated, the piece is then primed with a zinc chromate primer with a final coat of water based two part epoxy paint. Some of our benches are hand painted using a dry brush technique, others are airbrushed.
About our Sculptures....Design, production, and finishing are all done at the Cricket Forge facility in Durham, North Carolina. They have complete hands-on control of quality in every respect. All benches are hand-crafted of 1/4" steel. The benches are fabricated, shot blasted, flame sprayed with zinc, and painted with a high quality two part epoxy base paint. This weather proof finishing technique results in a highly resistant coating that prevents oxidation. Benches are individually hand painted using a dry brush technique or air brushed. Benches are palletized and shipped via common carrier.
These pieces of artwork last 50-75 years without rusting. Many are sold to ocean-front homes and the salt spray does not affect the finish. Mounting holes are provided at the base.
